The Future of San José Diridon Station
Program Overview
In 2018, the City of San José and four partner agencies (Caltrain, VTA, California High-Speed Rail, and MTC) established a plan for the expansion and redesign of Diridon Station. Diridon Station needed improvements to integrate with planned land use in the City of San José downtown area, connect different transit systems, and accommodate future growth and ridership from electrified Caltrain, BART, and High-Speed Rail service (estimated to bring over 100,000 daily passengers to Diridon Station by 2040)! From this plan, the Diridon Station Program was born. To learn more, visit the Planning History page.
In 2025, the Business Case phase led to advancing an “at-grade” alternative (see images below). It also established the Diridon Station Program, which created the foundation for the current planning process.
The Diridon Station Program is a collection of proposed projects organized into two groups: Station Elements and Southern Roadway Projects. Station Elements are parts of the station that will be added or changed. Southern Roadway Projects will modify street crossings where Park Avenue, San Carlos Street, Auzerais Avenue, and West Virginia Street meet the train tracks. We are currently in the Environmental Phase. This focuses on looking at how changes to Diridon Station may affect the surrounding environment and exploring ways to address these effects.

Community Engagement
Community engagement has played a big role in the history of the Diridon Station Program. Public input will continue to guide how the Program is defined, studied, and reviewed. It will also impact future decisions during Technical Studies and Environmental Review. Key stakeholders include nearby neighborhoods, the Historic Working Group, and more.
